A Minimalist Closet Tour

Filed Under: Blog Tagged With: diy, minimalism, wardrobe

I’m so excited to finally share my closet with you! It’s only taken me a year (pandemic motherhood shifted my timeline!). It also took me so long because I built this wardrobe with Ikea Sektion cabinets and Semihandmade doors. It was a learning curve for me but I’m thrilled with how functional and streamlined they are!

Today I’m opening my closet doors and drawers to share how, what, and where I keep my clothes (and a few other non-clothing items ;). My husband and I share this entire wall closet. He has the two cabinets on the left and the I have the two that are open in the photo above 😉

In this minimalist closet tour my goal is to show you how it works for me and how it may work for you. Just a reminder, this is my closet on ‘picture day’. It’s not always this organized and tidy. Let’s get to it, shall we!

My Minimalist Closet Tour

On the top shelf I use these gray bins, one holds my out of season clothing and the other holds my 3 coats (rain coat, fall coat, winter coat).

The middle shelf from left to right holds my garment folder and packing cubes for traveling. The packing cubes help keep all of my clothing organized and compact for lighter travel. Definitely a worthwhile purchase! Next is my black handbag from HOBO international. I used this as my purse/diaper bag for kids 3 and 4. I now use it when I travel. Lastly, the single gray bin holds my bed sheets. I have 3 sets of sheet for my bed.

Sentimental Items and Jewelry

This shelf is where I like to keep a few sentimental, books, and beautiful things. The photo is of my kids and I and the blue-ish watercolor artwork is from my 7 year old. He loves to paint! I rotate out special paintings he makes me and display them in these wood photo holders that my friend makes on Etsy.

I don’t currently have much in the top drawer at this point. Which is fine! A hat, some jewelry, a De-pill multi-fabric comb and a few more sentimental items that belonged to my grandparents. I do have a jewelry box in my other cabinet closet that has some jewelry in it. My plan is to get a flat jewelry organizer like this one for the top drawer that will keep my earrings, bracelets, and necklaces tidy. I don’t have a lot of jewelry so it should work!

Undergarments

In this drawer I keep my socks, bras, underwear, and 3 swim suits. I use these white drawer organizers to keep them separated by category and much easier to find!

Bottoms

This drawer holds my 7 pants, 2 skirts, and 6 shorts. In the winter I store my shorts up above in my out of season bin.

Athletic & at Home

From top left: (3) athletic leggings & (2) shorts, pajama bottoms.

Bottom left: (5) athletic tops, (2) sweat shorts, and (3) pajama tops.

Top row from left: Stained clothes I use for messy/yard work, (3) sweat shirts.

Bottom row from left: Short sleeve t-shirts and tanks, (3) long sleeve t-shirts, (3) light sweaters

Moving on to my second wardrobe cabinet…

From the top left: The clear plastic bin holds a small assortment of gift bags, new and used. Side note: When I need a gift bag I like to use these paper gift bags that can be drawn on and also recycled. Next to the bin is my small carry on luggage. I have bigger luggage pieces stored in the garage.

The second shelf holds a couple boxes of pictures and other paper items I want to keep, a small collection of books, and a sewing tin that my grandma gave me.

This is All of my hanging clothes. There are a few items in the laundry at the moment but this is the majority of it. On the shelf behind the clothes you can see my jewelry box that I plan to donate.

Shoes

The bottom two shelves are for my shoes. The birkenstocks in the back are my daughters. I wore them a few times but I don’t really like them.

Shoes that I keep in my mudroom that aren’t shown above:

  • Running sneakers
  • Outdoor work boots
  • Flip flops

And that’s how I keep and organize my clothing!

Hello! Today I’m sharing what and where we keep Hello! Today I’m sharing what and where we keep [most of] our art supplies. Now that I just sorted through it all 😆 😉.
This little spot is under our floating stairs just as you walk in through our front door. I think* you’d never guess most of our art supplies are kept here and I guess that’s kinda the point. Storage for kids crafts that blends right in with the rest of the house.
So, this is where we keep the bulk of our art supplies, paint, coloring books, colored pencils and markers, paint brushes, etc.

This central location works well and helps keep everything in one place!

You may never see the inside of my house again. Ok You may never see the inside of my house again. Ok, not really, but I’m seriously loving my backyard these days that I just want to keep sharing it with you!
I finally made a decision and purchased some outdoor furniture to sit on. It’s the best spot to enjoy the mornings before everyone is up. Just the birds, Rosie girl, my beloved pencil cactus in the corner, and the train 🚂 across the street in my front yard.
Now I just wish it didn’t take me so long to get this space set up!
Do you have a space outside to enjoy?

Hello! Matt and I have been working on the yard th Hello! Matt and I have been working on the yard this week and I feel like it’s finally coming together 😍. Last summer it was a hot mess of red Georgia clay but we worked with @yardzen to design a simple, low maintenance, beautiful yard for our family of 9! [Two heads are better than one ! ;) ]
I’m thrilled with how it’s come out and also to have a yard that we can use and enjoy.
And first up on my list of enjoyment for the back was a small garden. Do you have a garden? Or a backyard to enjoy without all the clutter?
